Value Tire & Alignment is an independent, family-owned repair shop at 5614 Funston St in Hollywood, Florida. We have been here since 1989 — one location, no franchise, no quotas — and we work on Lincoln cars and SUVs the same way we work on everything else: look at the car, show you what we find, price it, then fix it. One thing worth saying plainly, because people search for it: our technicians are ASE-certified. That is an independent, industry-wide credential earned by examination. It is not a Lincoln factory certification, we are not a Lincoln dealership, and we are not going to imply otherwise. What we offer instead is honest diagnosis, a written estimate before anything is touched, and the problem shown to you on the car.

“Lincoln” is also not one servicing problem. A Navigator is a full-size SUV. A Town Car is a body-on-frame sedan that often spends its life in livery service piling on highway miles. An MKZ, MKX, Nautilus, Corsair, Aviator or Continental is a different animal again. What your car needs depends on which one you own and how it has been driven, so the sections below are about what to watch for rather than a checklist we run on everything.

Lincoln Brakes

Brake wear comes down to three things: weight, heat and how you drive. All three work against you here. A Navigator carries far more mass than an MKZ, so it asks more of the same pads and rotors, and South Florida driving is stop-and-go almost by definition — traffic lights, causeway backups, I-95. Brakes that would last a long time on open highway do not last as long here.

As a general guide, brake pads typically last somewhere between 30,000 and 70,000 miles. That range is enormous for a reason: the number that matters is what is left on your car, not an average. Come in when you notice any of this.

• A high squeal that stops when you press the pedal — usually the wear indicator doing its job
• Grinding or a metallic scrape — stop driving on it, that noise is usually metal against rotor
• A pulse or shudder through the pedal or steering wheel when you slow from speed
• The car pulling to one side under braking
• A pedal that sinks slowly, or sits lower than it used to
• A brake warning light, or a parking brake that will not release cleanly

Lincoln Tune Up

“Tune up” is a leftover term from carburettors and distributors, and it is worth being straight about that. There are no points to set on a modern Lincoln. What people mean by a tune up today is a maintenance and ignition service, and the old every-30,000-miles rule of thumb does not apply to most engines built in the last twenty years. Spark plug intervals in particular vary enormously by engine, so your owner’s manual is the authority, not a shop’s blanket number.

There is one thing genuinely worth knowing if your Lincoln is from roughly the last decade: many of them use turbocharged, direct-injected engines. Two practical consequences follow. A turbo is hard on oil, so stretching the oil interval on one of these costs more than it saves. And direct injection sprays fuel straight into the cylinder rather than over the back of the intake valves, so it does not wash them the way older port injection did and deposits build up over time. That is a normal characteristic of the technology rather than a fault, but it is one reason a high-mileage engine can start to idle rough or hesitate.

Symptoms that usually bring someone in for a tune up

• Rough idle, or a shake at a stoplight that smooths out once you are moving
• Hesitation or a stumble under load, pulling away or climbing a ramp
• Fuel economy falling off without any change in how you drive
• A check engine light, steady or flashing (a flashing one means stop driving it)
• Longer cranking before it catches, especially first thing in the morning

Any of those deserve a scan before parts get thrown at them. We have the equipment to read what the car has logged and start from there, which is a great deal cheaper than replacing plugs, coils and filters in turn and hoping.

Lincoln Oil Change

Oil intervals depend on what is in the sump, not on the badge on the hood. As a general guide, conventional oil wants changing about every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and full synthetic about every 7,500 to 10,000. If your Lincoln has a turbocharged engine it almost certainly calls for full synthetic — check the manual or the cap, and do not economise there.

The other reason to keep the interval is that an oil change is the cheapest look anyone gets at the rest of the car. While it is on the lift we go over the things that are visible from underneath and worth catching early.

Lincoln Wheel Alignment

Alignment is the quietest way to waste a set of tires. The classic signs are a car that drifts on a straight, level road when you relax your grip, a steering wheel sitting off-centre while you are going straight, or tread wearing noticeably faster on one edge than the other. Feathered or scalloped tread that you can feel by running a hand across it is another.

We use laser alignment equipment to bring camber, caster and toe back to the manufacturer’s specification for your vehicle. Two practical notes. If your Lincoln has air or load-levelling suspension, ride height has to be correct before an alignment means anything, so mention it when you book and we will check that first. And if you have recently hit a pothole hard, clipped a curb or had steering or suspension parts replaced, get it checked then rather than waiting for the tires to tell you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a certified Lincoln mechanic, or will an independent shop do?

It depends what the car needs. Warranty repairs and safety recalls have to go through a franchised Lincoln dealer — that is how those programmes work, and no independent shop can do them. For everything outside that, an independent shop is a normal and legitimate choice. Our technicians are ASE-certified, an independent credential earned by examination and kept current with training. It is not a Lincoln factory certification and we do not claim to be a Lincoln dealer.

How often should I change the oil in my Lincoln?

Conventional oil, roughly every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Full synthetic, roughly every 7,500 to 10,000. Your owner’s manual has the figure for your specific engine, and if it is turbocharged take the shorter end of the range seriously.

Can I stay with my car while the work is done?

Do you warranty your work?

We back our work with a parts-and-labor warranty. The specific terms depend on the type of repair and the part used, so ask when you get your estimate. New tires and parts also carry their manufacturers’ warranties, which we will identify and help you register or claim.

Do you only work on Lincolns?
